TAMALYN LEWIS PARTICIPATES IN “WOMEN TRAILBLAZERS IN LAW”

Partner Tamalyn E. Lewis of Engelman Berger took the spotlight at the Arizona Bankruptcy American Inn of Court earlier this month, where she and others shared powerful insights into the evolving role of women shaping Arizona’s legal landscape. The program, “Women Trailblazers: Carving New Tracks in Wild Arizona,” served as an inspiring continuing education opportunity for attorneys, highlighting the leadership and impact of women in the field.

Lewis joined a panel that included the Hon. Sarah Sharer Curley (Ret.), the Hon. Madeleine Wanslee, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Dist. of Arizona, Susan Freeman of Lewis Roca, and Carolyn Johnsen of Dickinson Wright. The session was moderated by Rachel Flinn of Russell Brown.

The panelists reflected on their experiences entering the legal profession during the 1970s, 80s and 90s and how, back in 1970, women made up just 3% of all attorneys, while this figure is now close to 40%. They also discussed challenges for female attorneys, and also explored ways to help more women reach the top ranks of the profession, including the benefits of mentors.

Lewis is an equity partner at Engelman Berger and served on the firm’s executive committee for three years. She brings more than 40 years of legal experience and a deep appreciation of Arizona business culture. Her experience as a Bankruptcy Extern in the United States Bankruptcy Court in 1982 and 1983 piqued her interest and desire to advocate for the rights of creditors. Over the years, she developed extensive experience representing financial institutions, landlords, creditors, and individuals in commercial bankruptcies, foreclosures, loan workouts, agricultural matters, real estate matters, and settlement negotiations throughout Arizona, Texas, and New York.

The Arizona Bankruptcy American Inn of Court’s mission is to foster excellence in professionalism, ethics, civility and legal skills within the Arizona Bankruptcy community.
