ENGELMAN BERGER ATTORNEYS PLAYING KEY ROLES AT ABI SOUTHEST BANKRUPTCY CONFERENCE

Four attorneys from Engelman Berger will be playing key roles this week as the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) convenes its 2024 Southwest Bankruptcy Conference, September 4th through September 6th in Las Vegas, Nevada. This annual forum brings together leading practitioners and regional judges to share valuable insights on business and consumer bankruptcy.

  • Patrick A. Clisham, Engelman Berger’s managing partner, is a member of the ABI’s board of directors and education committee and will participate in planning meetings and discussions for the organization throughout the event

  • Scott B. Cohen is one of the presenters of a session entitled “Breaking Bad: Restructuring Illegal Businesses” scheduled for September 5th from 2:15 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. This program will delve into the legal challenges and restructuring opportunities for businesses navigating state and federal regulations, particularly those in the marijuana industry. Panelists will discuss alternatives to bankruptcy and innovative solutions for businesses operating in legally ambiguous areas.

  • Bradley D. Pack will present “Distressed Commercial Real Estate and UCRERA” on September 5th from 9:45 a.m. – 11 a.m. This session will cover the latest trends in distressed commercial real estate, including loan workouts and remedies for troubled loans such as receiverships, foreclosures, deed of trust sales, and other legal options. The discussion will also address landlord/tenant issues and their implications for loan management.

  • Michael P. Rolland is a moderator for the panel “On the Supreme Court’s Docket” on September 5th from 11:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. This session will explore recent court decisions, their implications for ongoing cases and the future of the Chapter 11 bankruptcy practice. Rolland is also a member of the conference’s advisory board, helping to organize the conference’s panels and topics.

Conference attendees will have the opportunity to earn 7.5 hours of CLE credit, including 1.25 hours of ethics (pending approval in states with a 60-minute hour), or 9 hours of CLE credit, including 1.5 hours of ethics (pending approval in 50-minute-hour states).
