Engelman Berger is looking to hire an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant (LA) to join our 15 lawyer mid-town firm. Our firm prides itself on both the quality of its work and the collegiality of its work environment. This LA will be an integral part of our legal support team, often working on all phases of a matter from beginning to resolution. The LA will work primarily with a team of lawyers and/or paralegals, while occasionally assisting other professionals within our firm.
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of state and federal litigation procedures and electronic filing systems, strong proofreading skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, and the ability to work within a paper-light environment. Bankruptcy experience is highly valued.
Responsibilities will include drafting, proofreading, verifying, and editing a wide variety of legal documents, client correspondence, and docketing deadlines, hearings, and meetings. This position requires a proactive and cooperative approach in working with multiple attorneys, staff, clients, and court officials, while maintaining a professional and client service-oriented demeanor. This candidate must be engaged in the current use and development of technology. Depending on experience, this position may also include or evolve into including some paralegal duties.
A minimum of 5 years of law firm experience in litigation is required. We are looking for someone with specific experience in Business Litigation, Banking and Finance, Bankruptcy, and Creditor/Debtor Rights. Appellate experience is a plus.
